Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Supporting Families Through Cleaning for a Reason

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about breast cancer and support those affected by it. It is also a good reminder that sometimes the best way to help someone is to simply make life a little easier.

At Grace Home Cleaning, we do that through something we know well: cleaning.

We’re proud to partner with Cleaning for a Reason, a nonprofit organization that helps cancer patients and their families by providing professional house cleaning services at no cost.

What Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month takes place every October. During this month, organizations and communities bring attention to breast cancer, encourage people to learn about breast health and early detection, and recognize the people and families affected by this disease.

You’ll see plenty of pink throughout October. However, awareness is about more than pink ribbons.

It is also about supporting the people behind them.

For example, that might mean checking in on a friend, helping a family member, or finding a practical way to make someone’s day a little easier.

When someone is going through cancer treatment, even everyday household chores can feel like a lot.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Cancer Treatment

Cancer treatment can change a person’s normal routine. Doctor appointments, treatments, medications, rest, work, and family responsibilities can quickly fill the calendar.

Meanwhile, there are still plenty of things that need to be done at home.

The floors still need to be vacuumed. Bathrooms still need to be cleaned. Dust still collects.

For someone focused on getting through cancer treatment, cleaning the house may not be where they want to spend their limited time and energy.

That’s where a little help can make a big difference.

Cleaning for a Reason Helps Cancer Patients

Cleaning for a Reason connects cancer patients with professional cleaning companies that donate free house cleaning services.

Eligible cancer patients can receive two free home cleanings, one cleaning per month for two months. In addition, the program is available to patients receiving treatment for any type of cancer, including breast cancer. Learn more about the Cleaning for a Reason program and eligibility requirements.

Since 2006, Cleaning for a Reason and its cleaning partners have helped more than 65,000 cancer patients and their families.

Grace Home Cleaning is proud to be part of that effort.

Sometimes Cleaning Is the Help Someone Needs

A clean house cannot change a cancer diagnosis. It cannot make treatment disappear or take away the worry that comes with cancer.

However, it can remove one small responsibility from an already-full plate.

For a cancer patient, that might mean having more time to rest. For a spouse or caregiver, it could mean one less chore to fit into an already busy day. Most importantly, for a family, it can mean more time together.

Sometimes helping someone doesn’t have to be complicated.

Instead, it can be as simple as saying:

“Don’t worry about the house. We’ve got it.”

That’s what we love about Cleaning for a Reason.

How You Can Help Someone Going Through Cancer

If you know someone receiving cancer treatment, consider sharing Cleaning for a Reason with them.

Patients can apply for the program themselves. Alternatively, a caregiver, friend, family member, nurse navigator, or doctor can apply on a patient’s behalf with the patient’s permission.

You can also help by simply being there.

Bring dinner. Offer a ride. Help with the kids. Run an errand. Above all, check in and ask what they need.

Small acts of kindness can mean a lot during a difficult season.

Grace Home Cleaning Is Proud to Clean for a Reason

At Grace Home Cleaning, we believe a clean home can make life feel a little lighter.

That’s true when you’re busy with work, kids, appointments, and everyday life. However, it can be even more meaningful when someone is facing cancer treatment.

We’re honored to use our professional cleaning services to give cancer patients and their families one less thing to worry about.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we hope you’ll look beyond the pink ribbons and remember the people behind them.

The moms. The daughters. The sisters. The wives. The friends. The neighbors.

After all, sometimes helping doesn’t mean doing something huge.

Sometimes it means saying:

“You take care of you. We’ll take care of the cleaning.”
